Tails from the Iditarod Trail is a Mini Kit introduced in the Summer of 2021, and inspired by the incredible stories of sled dogs and their mushers who have been traversing the Iditarod Trail for more than 100 years. Originally a path taken by the most courageous canines and their mushers to deliver material goods to remote towns in Alaska, this Trail was made ever more famous when there was an outbreak of Diphtheria in the small town of Nome, AK in 1925. This pandemic of 1925 required over 200 dogs and 20-some people to race against time to transport medicine all the way from Anchorage to Nome in sub-zero temperatures and white-out conditions. Since that time, many tales have been told and stories written about this heroic journey by human and husky alike, several of which are contained in this Mini Kit. This Mini Kit also includes stories about the culture and livelihood of those who have lived remotely in Alaska and relied on sled dogs for transport and travel for generations.
